THE BRIDE
Written By: The Groom
My ideal girl is someone who could talk to me. Being a very talkative person  - I need to be with someone who could keep the conversation flowing. I have always imagined settling down with someone who I see sitting beside me, 40.. 50 years from now, talking about how we've survived the trials that came our way and the happy moments we've had. Someone who , despite our old age and failing health, could still manage to be as attentive and talkative as a preschooler attending her first day at school. But you need to have something to talk about before you could start a conversation - so she should also be brave enough to face life’s adventures with me.. someone who would be with me as we solve and experience the mysteries of life..someone I can run to when I'm feeling down and look for when I'm in cloud nine. A girl who I'd like to be with and would like to be with me for better or for worse.

I've been told many times that the ratio between boys and girls is at 1:9. Every guy has dreamt of having an ideal partner. I, for one, did and with the current odds - the chances of meeting the best girl are pretty slim. What exactly is an ideal girl? A quick search in today's modern encyclopedia (ehem google) gives you adjectives like faithful, responsible, mature and gracious. With more than 3 billion girls in the planet ( 45 million in the phils ) looking for the right one could be quite daunting. Like what they say, determing between Ms. Right and Ms. Right Now is not as easy as it seems.
These are my Lolo and Lola's rocking chairs, passed down to my Mama and Papa..
These chairs have witnessed and heard generations of conversations between couples..

Em has been my bestfriend for over a decade and life with her is as exciting as the first day we met. Together we have shared a lot of good and bad experiences that had made us stronger. She is someone I can depend on when I'm having a bad day - someone who was with me while I had my stalled Volkswagen fixed  and held my hand while I had bad liver checked.  On long roadtrips, she is someone who desperately tried to stay awake and kept me company while I was driving.  She did this even though her eyelids must have weighed a ton.  The same way I look for her when I’m down, I also am very eager to share with her the happy moments of my life like the time when I graduated from college or when I got promoted in my job. She is my buddy when it comes to parties and boy! does she know how to have fun. She is the designated “cleaner” long after everyone has passed out  - a trait that clearly shows how responsible she is.  She has been the most faithful, responsible, mature and gracious friend I have ever had. I can clearly see myself growing old with her.

I met my ideal girl 10 years ago and while I was describing to her my ideal girl – I was merely describing how I see my life with her. I met Em October of 2001 and my life was never the same since that day. Today, you would usually see us in coffee shops or bar, hanging out, talking about how fun the last 10 years was.  I am fortunate to have her with me as I close another chapter in my life and start a new and better one.

We’re getting married this coming May… I am really looking forward to all the adventures we’ll face and I’m looking forward to sitting down with chatting with her everyday .

Em is my bestfriend, my girlfriend, my fiancee' and my wife – and only death will do us part.

Waiting for our turn to sit on these chairs hon...

THE GROOM

Who is Archie? Well, He is my dream come true.

As a girl I have always dreamt of becoming one of the Disney princesses. I wanted to wear the pretty dresses, to live in a castle, to be part of something magical. But most of all, I wanted to meet my prince charming. As I grew up, I realized that making this dream come true is not as easy as it looks on my fairy tale books. It doesn’t take just a couple of hours till midnight, or just one look at someone, and not even one whole song to know that you have already found your prince. There were a couple of times when I hoped that my fairy godmother would appear to me, but she didn’t.

A lot of things happened in my life - things that I've never read about in my fairy tale books. My books never told me that sometimes, a prince doesn’t always ride horses, or carriages. There's one who rides cars – a silver Mitsubishi Lancer, and a red Volkswagen beetle. He also rides a scooter to save on gas. Haha! :) I did not meet him in a ball, or in a forest while playing and talking with my animal friends, but in an internet chat room (MIRC). Is that the modern version of the magic mirror? He doesn’t sing to me in public, not because he couldn’t, but because he doesn’t want to, he dances very well though. :)

My prince doesn’t have guards or servants because he doesn’t need them. He knows how to do things on his own. He is an all around handy man. He knows how to fix things around the house, restore old furniture, and sometimes he builds one from scratch. He paints his own cars and scooter, and he knows how fix them too. He can fix, reformat, and program, not only my laptop and PC, but my dad’s as well. :) He could also do basic house chores; he cleans, wash his clothes, and cook! Although most of the time, he only cooks his favorite bagoong fried rice. :) I’m super excited, because I just realized, that from all these things that he can do, I really feel that I would be living like a princess. :) I do not only have a prince, but I will also have my own guard and servant as well! :) haha.. :) (Love you Hon!)

Another interesting thing that happened to me, that my fairy tale book did not mention, is that I became friends with my Prince first before falling in love with him. Archie was my best friend (he still is), before he became my boyfriend. In fact we didn’t go through the traditional courtship, everything just fell into its proper place. He is not the kind who sings to me all the time, but he talks to me. He is always there when I need him. We can talk about everything under the sun. I’m not afraid to talk to him about anything, even some girly stuff. Sometimes I feel that he doesn’t even understand half of what I’m talking about, be tries his best to catch up, because he knows and feels that what I’m talking about is important to me. :)

Unlike in the fairy tales, it didn’t take us just one day to make the big decision that we already want to get married. It took us 10 years, to finally realize that we are now ready to take this next step in our lives. It going to be quite an adventure, and we don’t even know what’s ahead of us. What we do know is that as long as we’re together, everything will be alright.

So you see, my own fairy tale may be somewhat different from what I used to read as a little girl, but in a way the rest of the story is the same. In just a couple of months, I would be wearing my very pretty dress, I would live in his castle, I know for sure that, that day is going to be very magical, and most of all I would be marrying my prince – my one true love.

Who is Archie again you ask me…  He is my prince, my best friend, my personal handyman, my dream come true, and he is my happily ever after.
